DL Course: Physical Education 10  DL Teacher: Mr. Yip

Why are you taking this course through DL?

I took PE 10 online during this past summer, 2014, because I love being outdoors, especially during that time of year. I wanted to free up an elective so that I could better balance and manage my grade 10 school year. Also, this is the year where grades go on your diploma, so this is very important to me.

What are the benefits of taking the course online?

I liked that it was self-paced, so that if you finish early, then it's all done! I really liked and appreciated how well laid out the course expectations were presented. For example, there were great sample examples online of the different projects and activities. There were also some very easy to watch videos. The teacher was very clear in the expectations of all parts of this course. I felt connected, as I received positive feedback and comments from the teacher on each of the assignments I submitted.

What are some challenges that you face in DL? How do you overcome these challenges?

Don't procrastinate! Do actually use a planner and schedule out all the dates and assignments and stick to it! I was slow to get started on the course, but once I did, I felt really good about staying up to date on activities.

What has been your favourite activity in the course?

Learning how to effectively use PowerPoint. I was not very familiar with it at first, but as I had to use it for many of the projects, I feel confident that I can use it in other courses. I'm really glad that I learned this tool.

Have you taken any DL courses before? If so, which ones?

No, this was the first year for me.

Would you take a DL course again?

Absolutely and I am looking for options for grade 11 too!

Advice to any potential DL students?

Make the commitment to plan it all out and schedule in your planner. You have to stick to it. Time flies by if you don't and then you end up rushing through it.
