Did you know that November 16th

is Louis Riel Day?

November 16th is honoured annually as Louis Riel

Day across Canada. November 16th is the

anniversary of Louis Riel’s execution in 1885. Riel

is honoured and recognized for his fight for Métis

Rights. November 16th is also a day to celebrate

and acknowledge the dynamic and vibrant Métis

culture. Here is some information on how B.C.

Did you know that the Canadian Mint recently

launched a new coin on the 175th anniversary of

Louis Riel’s birthday?

The coin was unveiled on October 22, 2019. The coin

was designed by Métis artist David Garneau, and is

the first coin to feature the Métis language, Michif.
