Online gaming

How is online gaming impacting students? Gaming is extremely popular among youth. What are the potential benefits and harmful effects? Join the North Vancouver School District for an interactive discussion about the impacts of online gaming. Tuesday, January 14, 2020, from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. at the Education Services Centre (2121 Lonsdale Ave, 5th floor). All parents and students are invited to attend.

 

Strategic planning – Add your voice!

The North Vancouver School District is undertaking a comprehensive strategic planning process to review our current strategic goals and to set new goals for the future. Join the North Vancouver School District for a public open house (drop-in format) on Saturday, January 18, 2019, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Education Services Centre (2121 Lonsdale Ave, 5th floor). Feedback can also be provided online through the engagement tool Thoughtexchange. The online engagement will be open from Jan. 9 to Feb. 7, 2020. The direct link will be shared when it opens.

 

Board of Education – Public Board Meeting

Everyone is invited to attend the Public Board Meeting of the North Vancouver Board of Education on Tuesday, January 21, 2020, at 6:30 p.m. at the Education Services Centre (2121 Lonsdale Ave, 5th floor). The agenda will be available HERE on the Friday prior to the meeting.

 

Late French Immersion information session

Attention parents of current grade five students! An information session is taking place on January 22, 2020, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Education Services Centre (2121 Lonsdale Ave, 5th Floor) for parents interested in registering their children in Late French Immersion. The program starts in Grade 6 and is offered at Braemar and Boundary elementary schools. Further information about the program is available HERE.

 

Secondary Enhanced Programs & Academies Night

All grade seven and secondary school students and their parents/guardians are invited to attend an information evening about the many choice programs offered at the secondary school level. Thursday, January 23, 2020, from 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at Sutherland Secondary School (1860 Sutherland Ave, North Vancouver). More information about secondary enhanced programs is available HERE.

 

Building our community - Trades and Technology careers

Secondary school students can find their perfect fit at a fair for exploring careers in trades and technology. January 27, 2020, from 6:00 p.m. - 8:45 p.m. at the Education Services Centre (2121 Lonsdale Avenue, 5th floor). Exhibitors: Architects, Fashion Designers, Interior Designers, Electricians, Ironworkers, Welders, Auto and Motorcycle Mechanics, Engineers, Holographic Creators, and everything in between! NVPAC meeting

All parents are invited to attend the North Vancouver Parent Advisory Council meeting on January 20, 2020, at 7 p.m. at the Education Services Centre (2121 Lonsdale Ave, 5th floor). Further information about NVPAC is available HERE.

 

Input Opportunity: Budget Priorities

Each year, the North Vancouver School District undertakes a public consultation process for input on budget priorities. Staff, students, parents, education partner groups, and community members are invited to provide their input on budget priorities. Budget priorities align with and support the school district's strategic goals, vision and values. There are various ways to provide feedback:

  • In-person: at the Board Standing Committee Meetings on February 4 and April 7, 2020, at 7 p.m. at the Education Services Centre (2121 Lonsdale Ave, 5th floor).

  • Email: from February 3 to March 13, 2020 (budgetcomments@sd44.ca)

  • Online: from February 18 to March 13, 2020 through an exchange of ideas on the online platform Thoughtexchange. More information regarding budget feedback via Thoughtexchange will be provided.

  • Traditional mail: addressed to - Secretary Treasurer, 2121 Lonsdale Ave, North Vancouver, BC, V7M 2K6.

Registrations

 

Registration and Transfer requests for grades 1-12

Priority registration of new students entering grades 1-12 for the 2020/21 school year and for transfer requests for the 2020/21 school year opens on January 20, 2020, and closes February 28, 2020. For further information on how to register, click HERE.

 

Academies registration

Registration for the North Vancouver School District's academy programs opens on January 20, 2020, and closes on February 24, 2020. Our highly specialized secondary school academies enhance the curriculum for students by providing learning environments that concentrate on a focal skill set. Elementary Band & Strings - Early bird registration

The Elementary Band and Strings program is unique to the North Vancouver School District and is available for all students in grades 4-7. The program complements the BC Ministry of Education's Arts Education curriculum and is funded by registration fees. Registration for the 2020/21 program opens on January 22, 2020. If you register in January with the Early Bird rate your payments from February 1- September 1 will be under $60 per month (8 instalments). Early Bird Registration: January 22 – April 14, 2020 ($470). Full Registration: April 15 – Sept 30, 2020 ($500). Payment can be made in a single payment or instalments through SchoolCashOnline. Artists for Kids Winter 2020: After School Art Programs

Registration for Winter After School Art classes is open. Classes run from January to March 2020. Classes are available for students in grades kindergarten up to age 15. Taught by art specialist teachers and assisted by secondary art students, classes provide students the opportunity to further their artistic ability and foster positive attitudes towards the visual arts. These classes are run in various schools across the North Shore, and there is an end-of-term student exhibition at the Gordon Smith Gallery. For further information and to register, click HERE.

 

StART Strong preschool art classes

Registration is now open for StART Strong art programs for kids aged 3 - 5. Classes run throughout January and February at the Artists for Kids studio (2121 Lonsdale Ave). Call to register: 604.903.3798.
