Culture Days BC
Culture Days BC takes place September 28-30, 2018. Artists for Kids is hosting two events:
- Saturday, September 29 at Noon, 6th Annual Orchestra Jam, Gordon Smith Gallery, 2121 Lonsdale Ave.
- Saturday, September 29 at 2 p.m., Curators Tour: Transformations with Daylen Luchsinger, Gordon Smith Gallery, 2121 Lonsdale Ave.
Game of Apps information night
Game of Apps is a student app design contest. It includes 80 hours of instructional time. No prior design or coding experience is necessary. An information session for students and parents of all North Vancouver and West Vancouver secondary schools is being held on Wednesday, September 26 at 7 p.m. at West Vancouver Secondary School in the library (1750 Mathers Ave, West Vancouver). Handsworth replacement project update
A Public Standing Committee scheduled for October 2, 2018 at 7 p.m. (Education Services Centre, 5th floor, 2121 Lonsdale Ave.) will update the public on the Handsworth Secondary School replacement project. Topics will include: site massing, initial parking and transportation designs, and internal connections within the school. All parents, staff and students are invited to attend.
Kindergarten information evening
For parents/guardians of children who will enter kindergarten in September 2019 (children born in 2014). Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at Centennial Theatre (2300 Lonsdale Ave). Doors open at 6:30 p.m., presentation from 7-8 p.m., information booths until 9 p.m.
Newcomers night – Introduction to Cheakamus Centre
Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. at the Education Services Centre (5th floor, Oceanview Room, 2121 Lonsdale Ave.) For families new to Canada with children in grades 3, 4 and 6 in the North Vancouver School District. At this meeting, parents will have an opportunity to learn more about the exciting learning experiences linked to the BC Curriculum that are offered to students in grades 3, 4 and 6 at the Cheakamus Centre. Following the presentation, Farsi, Korean and Mandarin interpreters from the North Shore Multicultural Society will be available to answer questions.
Parents as Career Coaches
Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. at the Education Services Centre (5th floor, Mountainview Room, 2121 Lonsdale Ave.). Parents as Career Coaches is a one session workshop designed to help parents of secondary school students become more effective career development allies for their children. This three hour workshop is for parents/guardians of students currently in Grades 10, 11 and 12 (parents/guardians only). Please bring writing materials. Space is limited. Register HERE.
After School Art programs
Artists for Kids offers After School Art classes for elementary school students. Classes run in various schools across North Vancouver and are taught by art specialist teachers. Registration for Fall After School Art classes is now open. Classes begin the second week of October and run until the end of November. For more information, please click HERE.
Band and Strings
Registrations for the 2018/2019 Band and Strings program are currently being accepted. B.C. Training & Education Savings Grant
Did you know children born in 2009 or later can qualify for a $1,200 grant when they are signed up for a Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP)? No RESP contribution is required. Visit the British Columbia Training and Education Savings Grant web page for more information or email BCTESG@gov.bc.ca.
Registration for 2019/2020 kindergarten (children born in 2014) runs from November 5, 2018 - December 14, 2018. Kindergarten students must be registered in person by a parent or legal guardian. All registration forms and related documents must be submitted in person to the Central Registration office (2121 Lonsdale Ave.). BC general local election
On Saturday, October 20, 2018, municipal elections will take place in British Columbia. In North Vancouver, this includes electing seven school board trustees. The City of North Vancouver will elect three school board trustees and the District of North Vancouver will elect four school board trustees. Orange Shirt Day
Orange Shirt Day across Canada is recognized nationally and annually on September 30th. This year, the North Vancouver School District will recognize Orange Shirt Day on October 1, 2018. Police and Peace Officers Day
On September 30, 2018 flags at schools will fly at half-mast to honour Police and Peace Officers Day.
World Teachers' Day
The United Nations' World Teachers' Day commemorates the work of teachers and their contributions to society. It is observed on October 5th each year.
