A graduate of Seycove Secondary School in North Vancouver, Cunningham will be entering UBC's Science program this Fall. Cunningham was selected by Scholarship Chair Kerry Henderson and her committee for his outstanding academic achievements. This is the 3rd Nominee to win a Schulich Leader Scholarship at Seycove Secondary.

"Schulich Leader Scholarships are the largest STEM scholarships in Canada. With 50 outstanding students selected in Canada each year it is all but guaranteed that this group represents the best and brightest Canada has to offer. These students will make great contributions to society, both on a national and global scale. With their university expenses covered, they can focus their time on their studies, research projects, extracurriculars, and entrepreneurial ventures. They are the next generation of technology innovators."

"The Schulich Leader Scholarship will present many special opportunities for my studies at the University of British Columbia. I am now able to focus all of my time and effort on achieving my goal of obtaining a degree in Computer Science and to have the ability to connect with a national network of fellow STEM leaders. When I first received the notice of offer I could not believe that I actually won. I am honoured to receive this scholarship and to represent Seycove Secondary School. I hope to eventually work in the rapidly expanding field of Artificial Intelligence. This scholarship will help tremendously with my transition into the Computer Science world by opening new doors for exploration at one of the finest universities in Canada," Says Cunningham.

About Schulich Leader Scholarships

Schulich Leader Scholarships are prestigious entrance scholarships awarded to high school graduates enrolling in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) undergraduate program at participating universities in Canada and Israel. Recognizing the increasing importance and impact that STEM disciplines will have on the prosperity of future generations, businessman and philanthropist Seymour Schulich established this $100 million scholarship fund in 2012 to encourage our best and brightest students to become the next pioneers of global scientific research and innovation. This program awards 100 scholarships annually (50 in Canada and 50 in Israel), valued at more than $7 million.

In 2018, high schools across Canada put forth 1,400 Schulich Leader Nominees, who in turn became eligible to receive the scholarship and become Schulich Leaders. Schulich Leaders can devote their full time and attention to their studies, as all of their financial needs are covered over the course of their degree. Canada's highest potential students are winning these scholarships and will make remarkable contributions to society in the future.
