On April 10, 2017, MLA Naomi Yamamoto presented a $10,000 grant to the Artists for Kids Photography Enrichment program. The Photography Enrichment program offered by Artists for Kids to secondary students will now be able to provide even richer education and training for students thanks to a generous $10,000 capital grant from the provincial government.

"Photography requires expensive equipment. This $10,000 grant will enable us to purchase much needed photography supplies to enhance our successful digital photography program," said Yolande Martinello, Director, Artists for Kids.

The Photography Enrichment program works directly with 25 students per year. Students work with a variety of industry professionals culminating in publication in the North Shore News. In previous years, the focus has been on fashion, landscape and environmental photography. In addition to the student program, the digital photography program offers a professional development workshop for 10 to 15 teachers annually. These teachers are able to share their knowledge with more than 600 students each year.

The grant will be used to purchase two strobe kits, a camera and lens, three tripods, three reflectors, two light meters, three neutral density filters, and a storage bag.

"We are seeking equipment that will endure, and not become technologically obsolete. The strobe kits, for example, do not go out of date. They will be part of our program for 15 to 20 years. The camera equipment will last for five to six years," said Martinello.

The Artists for Kids Photography Enrichment program has been an essential part of the North Vancouver School District for more than 10 years. For more information about the program, visit: http://www3.gordonsmithgallery.ca/Artists4Kids/Programs/PhotographyEnrichment/Pages/default.aspx
