Welcome back!

January 03, 2017

Dear North Vancouver School District community:

Subject: New Year’s greetings from the Chair and Superintendent

It’s hard to believe 2017 is already here! This school year has been an exciting one thus far, as teachers and support staff engage students in deep learning via new opportunities provided by the redesigned curriculum. We are seeing learning happening outdoors in nature, Aboriginal ways of knowing weaved into varied curricular components, dynamic work placements providing diverse learners with meaningful connections and life skills, and technology used in creative ways for both teaching and communicating student learning. Staff continue to go above and beyond in their professional growth to best support students’ unique needs. It is an exhilarating time in public education!

Certainly, all this positive change is occurring because of the hard work of staff, students and parents. We want to express our deepest appreciation to all for your patience and support for the new online report card system. We also want to acknowledge how nerve-racking it can be to take risks in your teaching and learning – but the innovation and student success that is resulting is astounding. Not a day goes by where we don’t hear stories of staff engaging students in new ways and inspiring them to reach new heights in their personal and educational growth.

We also want to recognize the exceptional work of our facilities and information and communication technology departments. Our schools are safe, clean and welcoming learning environments as a result of the consistent support of our facilities staff. Throughout the winter, they have worked exceptionally hard to make sure snow is cleared, walkways and roadways are salted and heating and lighting systems are properly maintained. Our technology team has been the backbone for our new online report card system and will also be critical as we strive to move more services online.

Thank you as well to parents and students for your continual support. Students in North Vancouver are truly wonderful and parent engagement in student learning has valuable effects on both student and staff successes. We are lucky to work, learn, share and grow in the North Vancouver School District.

We wish everyone a happy and healthy 2017.

Sincerely,

Christie Sacré, Chair                                               Mark Pearmain, Superintendent
