September 23, 2016

As per the British Columbia Rules for Half-Masting, the National flag on all British Columbia Government buildings and establishments across the province, including the Legislative Building in Victoria, will be flown at half-mast from sunrise to sunset on Sunday, September 25, 2016 to recognize Police and Peace Officers' National Memorial Day.

Where a Canadian Flag and a British Columbia flag fly near to one other, both flags should be lowered to half mast. If only a BC flag is flown, this flag should be lowered to half-mast. Whereas September 25 is on a weekend, if there are no maintenance staff working at some of these buildings and establishments that day it is acceptable to lower flags to half mast at the end of the day on Friday and return them to full mast on Monday morning.

Flags on all Government of Canada buildings and establishments across the country, including the Peace Tower in Ottawa, will also be flown at half mast. This national memorial day gives Canadians an opportunity each year to formally express appreciation for the dedication of police and peace officers who make the ultimate, tragic sacrifice to keep our communities safe.
