Cloverley Project Updates

Events

Kindergarten Information Session — October 6
Parents/guardians of children born in 2021 who will enter Kindergarten in September 2026 are invited to and information session on Monday, October 6 at Carson Graham. Learn about the NVSD, the Kindergarten experience, and the registration process. Representatives from a variety of school district and community programs will also be present. Standing Committee Meeting – October 7
A Board of Education Standing Committee Meeting takes place on Tuesday, October 7 at 7 p.m. The focus of the meeting will be Mental Health and Well-Being. Visit the Public Meetings webpage for information on how you can participate and to review the meeting agenda, which is posted on the Thursday afternoon preceding the public meeting.

Registrations

Advanced Placement exams — Register by November 3
Handsworth Secondary and Sutherland Secondary are offering a range of Advanced Placement (AP) exams for self-study students in May 2026. The deadline to register and remit payment is Monday, November 3, 2025. Visit the Advanced Placement webpage for more information.

North Vancouver Online Learning – Online registration open
North Vancouver Online Learning (NVOL) provides engaging, accessible and interactive learning experiences for students in Grades 8 through 12 in both English and French. Students can enrol any time during the school year and have one calendar year to complete their course. Students may choose to engage in their NVOL courses entirely remotely online or in a blended model of online and in-person interactions at our NVOL Centre. Visit the NVOL website to learn more.

Artists for Kids — After School Art registration open
Led by BC-certified art specialist teachers and assisted by secondary art students, After School Art classes provide the opportunity to build skills and foster creative growth within the visual arts. Students will have the opportunity to expand their artistic abilities in a multitude of different mediums, including painting, felting, printmaking, and sculpting. Classes vary in duration, price, and medium. All art materials are included in the price of the program. Visit the After School Art webpage to view fall 2025 classes and to register.

2026/27 Kindergarten — Registration opens October 14
Registration for 2026/27 Kindergarten (for children born in 2021) runs Tuesday, October 14 to Monday, December 8, 2025. Visit the Kindergarten Registration webpage for detailed information regarding the registration process for the upcoming school year.

Gordon Smith Gallery — Explore & Create Saturday art program
Families with children ages 5-12 are invited to visit the Gordon Smith Gallery on Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for free, family-friendly drop-in art activities inspired by works in the Gordon Smith Gallery’s current exhibition, From The Ground. Gordon Smith Gallery — Call for volunteers
The Gordon Smith Gallery is seeking volunteers to assist with public gallery hours and special events. High school students ages 15 and older are encouraged to apply and may count volunteer time towards service hours. Visit the Gordon and Marion Smith Foundation website for more information.​

EducationPlannerBC website presentation for families — October 15
EducationPlannerBC invites parents, families, and supporters to learn about post-secondary education and career opportunities, and resources to support students in planning for their future. Register here to join a virtual website presentation on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.

The Great British Columbia ShakeOut — October 16
Earthquakes are common in BC. Around 4,000 are recorded in the province each year. While most of these earthquakes are too small to be felt, earthquakes strong enough to cause damage do happen.

Take the time to prepare. On October 16, 2025, at 10:16am, join thousands across the province for the annual Great BC ShakeOut earthquake drill. DROP-COVER-HOLD ON so that you are prepared to respond quickly and safely when you feel shaking or receive an Earthquake Early Warning alert on your phone, TV, or radio. Sign up at shakeoutbc.ca.

Use the month of October to make and/or update your emergency plan and kit. Don’t know where to start? Music at the Smith — October 18
Music at the Smith returns to the Gordon Smith Gallery with a Saturday afternoon concert featuring the Black Dog String Quartet. Formed in 2007, the Black Dog String Quartet is composed of Elyse Jacobson, violin; Molly Mackinnon, violin; John Kastelic, viola; and Doug Gorkoff, cello. Doors open at 12:30 p.m., performance begins at 1 p.m. Tickets are $20, available at the door. Visit the Gordon and Marion Smith Foundation website for more information.

Advocating for your child's needs at school — October 16, online
Empower yourself with the knowledge and tools to advocate for your child at school and beyond. This workshop will explore your child’s educational rights, how to create a supportive home environment, and practical strategies for collaboration with teachers and schools. Raising resilience: How conscious parenting works — October 19, Capilano Library
Facing power struggles or disobedience? Tired of yelling and punishments that don't work? Have an overly compliant child that isn't speaking up for themselves or feels distant? Aimed at parents of children of any age and even those thinking of becoming parents, this presentation will introduce a powerful mind shift towards connection. Registration is required. Learn more.

Intellectual Disabilities Society — Fall programming at The Summit
The Summit is a supportive and adaptive recreation center located in North Vancouver that celebrates people of diverse abilities, offering recreation and education programs designed to enhance social, physical and life skills for individuals who identify as having a disability and/or being neuro diverse. Fall programs include Glee Club, Dance and Mindfulness workshops, and an opportunity to meet the author of “Grumpy the Bird: Uh Oh Trouble at School.” Program details can be found on The Summit’s registration website. FPOABC Fire Prevention Week contest — Enter by November 1
Students in Kindergarten to Grade 7 are invited to take part in a short fire safety quiz hosted by the Fire Prevention Officers’ Association of BC (FPOABC). The quiz includes just five questions and is designed to spark conversations at home while helping gather data on smoke alarms and fire escape plans across the province. Participants have a chance to win one of two Nintendo Switch™ OLED consoles, and students in the District of North Vancouver could also win a local prize: a tour of the new Maplewood Fire and Rescue Centre, a meet-and-greet with DNV Fire Fighters, and a surprise pack featuring Sprinkles the Fire Dog, Ember the Fire Fox, and more. The contest ends November 1, with the draw taking place on November 15, 2025. Only contest winners will be contacted.

District of North Vancouver Youth Action grants — Apply by February 15
The District of North Vancouver (DNV) is providing a limited funding opportunity for youth to take meaningful actions that improve physical and digital spaces across the North Shore. The application period ends on Sunday, February 15, 2026. For more information and to apply, visit the DNV website.​
