April 27, 2025

NV Board Letter to the Community.jpg

Dear NVSD Families,

As you may be aware, a tragic incident occurred at the Lapu Lapu Day Festival in Vancouver on Saturday, April 26, 2025. On behalf of the North Vancouver Board of Education, our hearts go out to those impacted by this tragedy, and we extend our condolences, sympathy and support to all. While details continue to emerge, we recognize that members of the North Vancouver School District (NVSD) community may be impacted in different ways.

During times like these, it is important to prioritize care, connection, and stability. Responses to traumatic events vary from person to person — some may feel deeply impacted, while others may process events in different ways. All NVSD schools are committed to providing calm, compassionate support where it is needed.

Counsellors and school staff are available to assist students and families who may be experiencing distress. We encourage you to reach out to your school’s administration if your child requires additional support.

Maintaining regular routines while offering space for conversation and care is one of the ways we can help young people feel safe and supported. The following is a list of resources that may be helpful as you support your children at home:

Thank you for your continued care and support of one another. Together, we remain committed to the well-being of all students, staff, and families across the school district.

Sincerely,

Dr. Pius Ryan, Superintendent of Schools, North Vancouver School District

Linda Munro, Chair, North Vancouver Board of Education
