North Vancouver School District hosts
2nd Climate Action and Sustainability Week
April 11 - 14, 2023

The North Vancouver School District (NVSD) will host the second Climate Action and Sustainability Week, April 11 - 14, 2023.

Throughout the week, a series of events will inspire, educate and empower students and staff to come together as a community and make a positive impact. There will be engaging and thought-provoking demonstrations, presentations and interactive activities including:

  • April 12 – BeAware Fair. Hosted by Windsor Secondary, the fair will have students and staff learn from a range of environmental advocacy organizations.
  • April 13 – Climate-Conscious Cuisine. Staff and students will explore the connection between food and climate action with the Climate-Conscious Lunch Challenge. Through a hands-on cooking lesson, staff will also learn how they can connect food systems education to the classroom.
  • April 14 – Community Cleanup Day. Students and staff throughout the school district will participate in the cleanup, the largest community cleanup on the North Shore.

New this year, the school district has partnered with Minecraft Education to bring a curricular challenge to students and classes through the Build Your City Minecraft Challenge. Students will be challenged to design and reinvent our community – a North Shore that is greener, safer and more prosperous for all.

“An integral component of the North Vancouver School District’s 10-year strategic plan is Environmental Stewardship,” said Superintendent Dr. Pius Ryan. “To address environmental challenges, we must look at ways to provide climate action education and leadership opportunities to students and staff and support initiatives that champion sustainability. Climate Action and Sustainability Week is a wonderful initiative that captures the spirit of how the school district is working to address environmental challenges.”
