Board of Education update: Superintendent search

January 12, 2022

January 12, 2022

Dear North Vancouver School District Community,

On behalf of the North Vancouver Board of Education, I am writing to update you on the search for a new superintendent/CEO for the North Vancouver School District. This update follows the November 10, 2021 announcement of Mark Pearmain's resignation as Superintendent/CEO of the North Vancouver School District to take the role of Superintendent with the Surrey School District.

In accordance with the School Act and subject to Policy 602: Superintendent of Schools, the Board of Education is responsible for appointing a superintendent for the school district. As such, immediately following the November 10, 2021 announcement, the Board of Education took steps to engage in a nation-wide executive search to recruit a new superintendent.

The Board is pleased to share we have retained the services of executive search firm Boyden to help shape and implement the recruitment process for a superintendent. The Board, supported by the school district's Secretary Treasurer/CFO Jacqui Stewart, and Executive Director, Human Resources, Scott Stanley, will oversee Boyden's work. The recruitment process will include opportunities for the involvement and input of both Indigenous rights holders and school district stakeholders, which will assist the Board in its recruitment responsibilities.

The Board will determine the successful candidate for the role of superintendent/CEO. As chief administrative and executive officer of the school district, the superintendent reports directly to the Board and is responsible and accountable for carrying out the Board's objectives and management policies and for providing leadership in educational administration and instructional planning. A description of the superintendent's duties is described in Board Policy 602: Superintendent of Schools.

During the search for a new superintendent, the Board of Education and senior leadership will continue to ensure the school district aspires to our vision of providing world-class instruction and a rich diversity of engaging programs to inspire success for every student and bring communities together to learn, share and grow.
