In partnership with N/C Hockey Group, the North Vancouver School District opened a Hockey Skills Academy
at École Windsor Secondary School in 2004. The Academy's program is
licensed by Hockey Canada as a Hockey Skills Academy. This co-ed program
provides for the participation of all students, male and female,
regardless of their hockey experience.
The
Hockey Skills Academy is an athlete-centred program aimed at developing
the whole athlete. The goal is to enhance a player's confidence and
self-esteem while giving them opportunities beyond the secondary school
system.
The Hockey Skills Academy
program has developed and is proving to be an extremely positive
experience for students. With the coordination of secondary school
timetables in the North Vancouver School District, the program is
accessible to students outside the Windsor School catchment area.
The
program consists of the Hockey Skills curriculum as set out by Hockey
Canada and the Physical and Health Education curriculum established by
the B.C Ministry of Education. Students earn their grade level P.H.E.
credit upon successful completion of the program. Leadership
opportunities are available by request/invitation to senior students.
