About the Hockey Skills Academy
In partnership with N/C Hockey Group, the North Vancouver School District opened a Hockey Skills Academy at École Windsor Secondary School in 2004. The Academy's program is licensed by Hockey Canada as a Hockey Skills Academy. This co-ed program provides for the participation of all students, male and female, regardless of their hockey experience.
The Hockey Skills Academy is an athlete-centered program aimed at developing the whole athlete. The goal is to enhance a player's confidence and self-esteem while giving them opportunities beyond the secondary school system.
The framework of the Hockey Skills Academy consists of following the national instructional curriculum as set out by Hockey Canada and in compliance the BC Ministry of Education Prescribed Learning Outcomes for Physical and Health Education (PHE) 8-10 and Active Living 11-12. Students earn their grade-equivalent PHE/Active Living credit upon successful completion of the program. Leadership opportunities are available by request/invitation to senior students.
The Hockey Skills Academy program has developed and is proving to be an extremely positive experience for students. With the coordination of secondary school timetables with the North Vancouver School District, the program is accessible to students outside the Windsor School catchment area.
The Academy will be held in either block 4 or block 8 of the secondary timetable, depending on the cohort and location. Please note: transportation to and from the Academy site is the sole responsibility of the parent/guardian.
