Applications & Withdrawals Update

Applications to Academies

Academy registration for the 2018-2019 school year has closed and many academies are full to capacity for this school year.

If your student is interested in enrolling in an academy, please email academies@sd44.ca to inquire as to whether or not there are any spaces available. We are not accepting wait-list candidates at this point in the school year.

Registration information for the 2019-2020 school year will be posted on the website prior to the Enhanced Programs Night, which will take place at Sutherland Secondary School on Wednesday, January 23rd, 2019  from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.

Withdrawal Process

Please note: During the summer months of July and August 2018, you must email academies@sd44.ca with the word 'withdrawal' in the subject line if you wish to withdraw from an Academy. In the last week of August (27 - 31st), fill out the Withdrawal Form and bring it to the appropriate school personnel to sign.NVSD will process withdrawals through the Withdrawal Form only.

Withdrawals by email will not be processed. A student withdrawing from an academy may or may not be placed into a regular course, depending upon space availability. This is at the discretion of the school and the limitations of the school timetable.


​​Located at Windsor Secondary, Grades 8-12

The Dance Academy is scheduled for both Day 1 and Day 2. Students are placed in their class by the Dance Academy and Windsor Secondary.


In partnership with Seymour Dance and located at the Seymour Dance Studio next to Windsor Secondary School,  the academy provides for the participation of all students, regardless of their dance experience.​

The program consists of a dance curriculum, as set out by Seymour Dance and in compliance with the BC Ministry of Education's Prescribed Learning Outcomes for Physical Education. Students earn their grade-equivalent PE credits upon successful completion of the program.

Please note: transportation to and from the Academy is the responsibility of the parent/guardian.

How to apply

Selection

  • Priority 1 - Returning students
  • Priority 2 - Waitlisted students from the previous years
  • Priority 3 - Lottery for remaining students, if necessary.

Note: Those dancers not selected via the lottery will be placed on a waitlist.

Total spots available will be dependent upon the number of applications received and the ability of schools to organize suitable timetables to meet student needs.  If necessary, student selection for the Dance Academy will be determined by a lottery in a manner consistent with the Policy 605: Admission of Students to School.  Those dancers not selected via the lottery will be placed on a wait list.

Fees

$1,550 per school year

The first payment confirms placement in the academy and is non-refundable. It is due on or before June 1, 2018. If a family chooses to pay in installments, this must be set up for automatic withdrawal prior to June 1, 2018 with the first payment due September 1, 2018 and then on the first of each month through May 2019. Information for payment will be included in the acceptance package. An additional course fee of approximately $925 may apply to out-of-district students. Non-payment or late payment of fees may incur a penalty and/or result in loss of placement in the academy.
