About the Basketball Academy

In September 2014, the North Vancouver School District formed a partnership with Basketball BC, the North Vancouver Recreation Commission, and Vern Porter Consulting to offer the North Vancouver School District’s Basketball Academy.

The Basketball Academy is scheduled at Seycove Secondary, Parkgate Community Centre, Mountainside Secondary* and Argyle Secondary. Please note: transportation to and from the Academy site is the sole responsibility of the parent/guardian.

The Basketball Academy consists of two cohorts:

Cohort 1 - Competitive Stream

  • Argyle Secondary or Seycove Secondary
  • Generally grades 9 – 12
  • Athletes new to the academy are to be selected based on try-outs and placed as determined by Basketball BC

Cohort 2 - Academy Stream

  • Parkgate Community Centre or Mountainside Secondary*
  • Generally grade 8 – 10
  • For any student regardless of their basketball experience

*Location may be subject to change.

The Academy will be held in either block 4 or block 8 of the secondary timetable, depending on cohort and location.

The program consists of a basketball curriculum as set out by Basketball BC and is in compliance with the BC Ministry of Education Prescribed Learning Outcomes for Physical and Health Education (PHE) 8-10 and Active Living 11-12. Students earn their grade-equivalent PHE/Active Living credit upon successful completion of the program.

Registration in the Basketball Academy will not affect a player's ability to play on their home school's basketball team.
