About the Basketball Academy

Since September 2014, The North Vancouver School District has partnered with Basketball BC to provide its students with the best basketball skill development program in British Columbia. Former National and Professional basketball players, and now North Vancouver Basketball Academy coaches, Ransford Brempong and Levon Kendall, along with current head coach of Women's Basketball at Capilano University, Chris Weimer, lead students from North Vancouver Schools through a fast paced, high energy, developmental and high performance basketball curriculum. The NVBA believes the strength of "The Academy" lies in our coaches and their ability to motivate and push the student-athletes to be human-beings of integrity and high-character, while reaching their highest potential as basketball players.

The Basketball Academy consists of two cohorts:

Cohort 1 - Competitive Stream
  • Argyle Secondary or Seycove Secondary
  • Generally grades 912
  • Athletes new to the academy are to be selected based on tryouts and placed as determined by Basketball BC

Cohort 2 - Academy Stream

  • Argyle Secondary or Seycove Secondary
  • Generally grades 9–10
  • For any student regardless of their basketball experience
The program consists of the Basketball Academy curriculum as set out by Basketball BC and the Physical and Health Education curriculum established by the B.C Ministry of Education. Students earn their grade level P.H.E. credit upon successful completion of the program. The Academy will be held in either Block 4 or 8 of the secondary school timetable, depending on the cohort and location. Participation in the Basketball Academy will not affect a student's eligibility to play for their home school's basketball team.

* Transportation to and from the Academy site is the sole responsibility of the parent/guardian.
