Input Opportunity: Budget Priorities

Each year, the North Vancouver School District undertakes a public consultation process for input on budget priorities. Staff, students, parents, education partner groups, and community members are invited to provide their input on budget priorities. Budget priorities align with and support the school district's strategic goals, vision and values. There are various ways to provide feedback:

  • Online: from February 18 to March 13, 2020, through an exchange of ideas on the online platform Thoughtexchange. Click HERE to provide online feedback.
  • Email: from February 3 to March 13, 2020 (budgetcomments@sd44.ca)
  • In-person: April 7, 2020, at 7 p.m. at the Education Services Centre (2121 Lonsdale Ave, 5th floor). 
  • Traditional mail: addressed to - Secretary Treasurer, 2121 Lonsdale Ave, North Vancouver, BC, V7M 2K6.

The North Vancouver Parent Advisory Council is proud to host two LGBTQ+ Awareness parent sessions. PROPOSED 2020/21 School Calendar: Public Comment – Open until Feb 21, 2020

The Board of Education invites your feedback on the PROPOSED calendar for the 2020/21 school year. Information about the development process for annual school calendars and a copy of the PROPOSED 2020/21 School Calendar can be found on our school district website HERE. Feedback can be provided through the online engagement tool Thoughtexchange, which can be accessed HERE. The opportunity to provide your comment and feedback opened on Wednesday, January 22, 2020, and will end on Friday, February 21, 2020.

A summary of feedback received through the Thoughtexchange tool will be shared with the Board of Education at their Public Board Meeting scheduled for March 10, 2020. The Board will finalize and approve a 2020/21 School Calendar at the March meeting to meet the March 31st deadline for submission of the calendar to the Ministry of Education.

 

Ready, Set, Learn

The North Vancouver School District welcomes 3-5 year-olds who have not yet started kindergarten to come and join us with their parents, guardians, childcare providers, or early childhood educators to Ready, Set, Learn – free early learning events funded by the BC Ministry of Education. Events run from February 12 to May 13, 2020. Click HERE for the schedule of dates and times.

 

Board of Education – Public Board Meeting

Everyone is invited to attend the Public Board Meeting of the North Vancouver Board of Education on Tuesday, February 25, 2020, at 6:30 p.m. at the Education Services Centre (2121 Lonsdale Ave, 5th floor). The agenda is will be available on Friday HERE.

 

Budget priority working session

The North Vancouver Parent Advisory Council invites parents to a session focused on creating budget priorities that will be presented to the North Vancouver Board of Education for the annual school district budgeting process. Wednesday, February 26, 2020, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Education Services Centre (2121 Lonsdale Ave, 5th floor). More information is available HERE.

 

Ridgeway School Zone Safety Review – Open House

The City of North Vancouver is conducting a School Zone Safety Review around Ridgeway Elementary. City staff are now investigating potential approaches to address safety concerns in the study area. School families, staff and neighbours are invited to an Open House at the Ridgeway Elementary School gymnasium on Wednesday, February 26, 2020, to review and discuss possible safety enhancements with City staff. There will be two drop-in sessions, so stop by any time between between 3-4pm or 6-8pm. Self-Harm and You(th) – Free parent community conversation

Tuesday, March 3, 2020, from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. at the Education Service Centre (2121 Lonsdale Ave, 5th floor). This free event is hosted by Foundry (Vancouver Coastal Health) in partnership with the North Vancouver School District and West Vancouver Schools. It will focus on keynote speaker, Emma Carlson, providing information and education about self-harm. She will define the behaviour, discuss its origins and etiology, its prevalence in today's youth, discuss diagnosis and assessment, treatment in therapy, and what parents can do to help if a young person in their life is self-harming. Carson Graham Secondary 2nd Annual Career Fair – Student event

Secondary school students from across the school district are welcome to attend the 2nd annual career fair at Carson Graham Secondary. Tuesday, March 3, 2020, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at Carson Graham Secondary (2145 Jones Ave, North Vancouver).

Academies registration

Registration for the North Vancouver School District's secondary school academy programs for the 2021-21 school year is open and closes on February 24, 2020. Our highly specialized secondary school academies enhance the curriculum for students by providing learning environments that concentrate on a focal skill set. Elementary Band & Strings - Early bird registration

The Elementary Band and Strings program is unique to the North Vancouver School District and is available for all students in grades 4-7. The program complements the BC Ministry of Education's Arts Education curriculum and is funded by registration fees. Registration for the 2020/21 program is open. Early Bird Registration: January 22 – April 14, 2020 ($470). Full Registration: April 15 – Sept 30, 2020 ($500). Payment can be made in a single payment or instalments through SchoolCashOnline. Registration and Transfer requests for grades 1-12

Priority registration of new students entering grades 1-12 for the 2020/21 school year and for transfer requests for the 2020/21 school year opened on January 20, 2020, and closes February 28, 2020. For further information on how to register, click HERE.

  

Artists for Kids spring break camps

Registration is now open for Artists for Kids day camps during spring break. Art day camps are available for grades K-5. Click HERE for details and to register.

 

Artists for Kids spring after school art programs

Registration is now open for Artists for Kids spring after school art programs. Programs are available at schools across North Vancouver for students in kindergarten up to the age 15. Click HERE for details and to register.

 

Artists for Kids summer programs at Paradise Valley

Every year, Artists for Kids hosts two weeks of Summer School of Visual Arts in Paradise Valley (Cheakamus Centre/Outdoor School location). Both the junior group (ages 8 to 12) and the senior class (ages 13 to 18) are paired with a professional artist who presents on their work throughout the week. The students work with Art Specialist Teachers to make art of their own in response to the presentations from the Visiting Artist. There are also blocks of recreation time where the students go canoeing, hiking, or sketch the gorgeous scenery that surrounds them. Click HERE for details and to register.

 

StART Strong

There is still room in one of the popular Artists for Kids StART Strong preschool art classes coming up in April. The two parent-tot classes are full, but the program for children aged 4-5 years old who are not yet in kindergarten (without their parents) still has a few spots available.
