Cathy Piteux, Principal of Larson Elementary School, was recently recognized by the North Shore Restorative Justice Society for her work supporting children to succeed. Piteux won the Lindy Pfeil award. This award was created in 2017 to recognize extraordinary service to children and youth on the North Shore.

Congratulations Cathy!

The North Shore Restorative Justice Society has been providing the Circles in Schools program within the North Vancouver School District since 2013. The Circles in Schools program works within the social and emotional learning frameworks being used in classrooms and connects to the curricular core competencies of communication and personal and social responsibility. Every week, trained facilitators sit in circle with students, teachers, administrators, and support staff, and lead a series of developmentally appropriate activities and discussion that result in a greater awareness of oneself and others. Topics include: identity, diversity and stereotyping, empathy, peer pressure, mediation and conflict-resolution, self-inquiry, self-awareness, self-regulation, community building, and communication, as well as distinguishing between needs, rights and responsibilities. Further information about the program is available HERE.
