The Cheakamus Foundation for Environmental Learning is delighted to announce a $10,000 contribution from TD Friends of the Environment Fund for enhancements to the Cheakamus Centre boardwalk and outdoor classroom for aquatic habitat studies.

This funding will facilitate upgrades to the existing boardwalk, and enlarge the observation and sampling platform for educational instruction, as well as enrich pond habitat to support a wider diversity of wildlife and plants.

“We are excited that this project will improve access and understanding of this ecologically significant habitat,” says Sarah Bainbridge, senior development officer for the Cheakamus Foundation. “Enhancing outdoor learning space at Cheakamus Centre will further inspire discovery and exploration, supporting environmental awareness and stewardship. We are thrilled that we are able to make this happen with support from the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation.”

The upgraded boardwalk will enable students to obtain pond samples from the specially designed dipping platform and to get up close and personal with aquatic life, while minimizing impacts on sensitive habitats. Students, volunteers, and local environmental groups will have the opportunity to provide meaningful contributions in the planning and execution of this project.

Established in 1969, Cheakamus Centre is an environmental and Indigenous cultural education organization located on the traditional territories of the Skwxwú7mesh people near Squamish, B.C.

Cheakamus Centre serves more than 15,000 visitors annually from the Lower Mainland, Sea to Sky corridor and beyond. The centre also hosts visitors from around the world for special events, workshops, conferences, meetings, and retreats.
