The Digital Media Academy presents:
DMA WORKSHOP SERIES
 
ANIMATION for BEGINNERS  
 
 
Workshop: Animation /  beginner level 
 
Topic Description: What makes a compelling story? How would you represent your story visually? Storytelling and design are the driving forces of every aspect of Animation and Visual Effects. This workshop will cover a brief history of animation and visual effects. Students will also get a chance to explore storytelling and design in animation and as well as put concepts into practice by using industry standard software in the field of animation and visual effects. Led by veteran industry professional and Head of Animation at Vancouver Film School, this workshop is perfect for beginner students looking to get immersed in the world of entertainment!
 
About Instructor Colin Giles: Colin has over 17 years' experience as a Character Animator, Animation Director, and Designer, with credits in traditional and computer animation. His credits include work for Cartoon Network, Disney Interactive, and HBO.
 
WHEN: Monday & Tuesday, October 22 & 23 from 4:30-6:30pm -  4 hours total instruction   
WHERE: Argyle Secondary School, 1131 Frederick Rd, North Vancouver, (Classrooms 426)
AGES:  Grade 9-11 students
 
COST: Free!

The NVSD’s DMA/ Digital Media Academy is a mini school program based at Argyle Secondary School in Lynn Valley, North Vancouver.

The DMA is a specialty program for students in Grades 11 & 12 & DMA LITE is a specialty academy for students in Grades 9 & 10.  The academy is focused on animation, film, visual effects, graphic design, sound engineering, photography and web design.  The DMA program is an enriched hands-on environment that provides students with access to a broad and useful range of skills and knowledge in digital design, technology, project management and problem solving.  The DMA incorporates STEAM in the curriculum which has enhanced the learning of the program as of the main goals of the Digital Media Academy is to prepare students for post-secondary training and the many career opportunities in Digital Media, Science, Technology and Engineering.
