Dear Parents/Guardians and Staff in the Argyle Family of Schools:

Re: Argyle Secondary School Capital Project Update

As we head into mid-Fall, many of you may be wondering about the status of the Argyle Secondary School Capital Project. A recent article in the North Shore News mentioned that construction will begin in Spring 2018 with completion in 2020. I would like to take this opportunity to provide you with an update as to "where we are at" with the Argyle rebuild.

With the completion of the project design phases, we are now in the final stages of pre-construction work. A Development Permit application was submitted to the District of North Vancouver (DNV) in Spring 2017 and the process is still underway. Next week a Building Permit application will be submitted to the DNV. These applications are regular process for any new building construction.

District of North Vancouver staff have indicated their support of funding for consultant design work of a new artificial turf field, and will request funding for the construction of this new artificial turf field in their 2020 Capital Plan request. We are excited about the prospect of this shared community amenity. Finally, the project construction documentation is approximately 75% complete, and is scheduled to be finished early December 2017.

A public call for tenders for general contractors, as per BC Bid requirements, will be advertised mid- December, with contractor bids to be received by the North Vancouver School District late January 2018. Assuming the tender bid aligns with budget, and if the Building Permit has been issued by the DNV, construction could commence as early as February 2018.

The current timeline indicates that the new building, assuming there are no construction issues, will be completed and ready for occupancy for the 2020/2021 school year.

We are excited about providing a 21st Century learning environment for our Argyle School Community and look forward to sharing its progress with you in the future. Should you have further interest in this project, please check our website for periodic updates. The proposed development documentation will be posted following completion of the DNV Development Permit review.

Yours sincerely,

Mark Pearmain
