By Janis Mann, District Principal, Inclusive Education
May 26 to June 1 is National AccessAbility Week (NAAW), and the district is using this time to recognize the valuable contributions and leadership of Canadians with disabilities, as well as to promote accessibility and inclusion.
The North Vancouver School District is committed to the ongoing work of identifying, removing and preventing barriers for persons with visible and invisible disabilities. To read the 3-Year Accessibility Plan, visit the Accessibility web page.
In collaboration with the District Accessibility Advisory Committee, learning opportunities and resources have been shared with all schools and throughout the district to celebrate and recognize this important week. Below are a few highlights from this week.
Libraries
Our school libraries play an important role in supporting all learners to feel a sense of belonging in schools. This week, through the support of Teacher Librarians, schools have been featuring stories to highlight the experiences of people with disabilities.
Student Experience
Students across North Vancouver Schools have thoughtfully and vulnerably shared their perspectives and experiences. Some of these have been compiled into a short video created by Teacher, Chris Miller, from Argyle Secondary. Please note, this video is available to view until July 8, 2024.

Multi-Sensory Room Van
To support the success of all students at Queen Mary Elementary School’s Fun Day, the North Shore Disability Resource Centre Mobile Multi -Sensory Room Van was onsite. This multi-sensory environment provides a relaxing space, designed to stimulate the senses to bring peace, calm, and wellness.
The North Vancouver School District recognizes the contributions of all staff, students and community members, as we work to build a more accessible and inclusive school district.
