Pilot art gallery program: a collaborative and inclusive learning experience

By Daylen Luchsinger, Vice Principal of Arts Education

This spring, Artists for Kids was excited to collaborate with the school district’s Inclusive Education team and SET BC to pilot a gallery program experience for students with diverse abilities and disabilities.

The setting was the art exhibition We Can Only Hint at This with Words. The exhibit allowed guests to explore the sensations and emotions of the human experience that language alone cannot quite fully represent.

In a system that relies so heavily on language, this felt like the perfect setting to bring students together to share their feelings and creative responses to their experience.

Special thanks to those who supported this project, including Andrea Taylor, artist in residence; Colin Young and Megan Deitrich, lead educators; Janis Mann, District Principal of Inclusive Education; and the entire Inclusive Education team.

View the video, prepared by SET BC, that provides an overview of the students’ learning experience.
