Cleveland community celebrates Earth Day

By Tine Parker, Vice Principal/Teacher, Cleveland Elementary

Cleveland Elementary is a wonderful community with thriving and active students, supportive families, and fantastic staff—all who play a role in taking care of the school, school property and each other.

As an example, students have been "freeing the trees" by pulling invasive plants, cleaning the area for debris, and rebuilding the long jump pits. Through it all, they have demonstrated how they care for one another.

The Cleveland Parent Advisory Council (PAC) recently put on an incredible Earth Day event on April 24. Eldon Road was closed for the morning, and games were set up so students and families could enjoy an active start to the morning.

There were activities for everyone, including tennis, road hockey, bubble-making stations, hula hoops, basketball, sidewalk chalk, soccer, skipping ropes, and music, which led to dancing.

The event was well attended, with over 700 people present! Families had a fantastic time being engaged in physical activities and reconnecting. It was nice to see how we were able to once again connect face-to-face, outside, and for the well-being of students.
