Queen Mary Elementary celebrates Pink Shirt Day

By Jennifer Wilson, Principal

At Queen Mary Elementary, our students are wearing pink to encourage everyone to practice kindness and to show others that our school community does not tolerate bullying.

In advance of Pink Shirt Day, Queen Mary parents/guardians worked with staff to design and sell a unique Queen Mary shirt that reflects the cultural diversity of our community.

This year’s shirt features 30 languages that are spoken by Queen Mary students and families!

To connect to our community, students have been using sidewalk chalk on walkways around the school to share words and symbols of kindness. Teachers have been working with students on the importance of speaking up against bullying and reporting incidents of bullying.

To empower students and give them the confidence to report, we have students name a minimum of three “go to” adults in their lives that they feel comfortable confiding in, reporting to, and seeking help from.

Pink Shirt Day shirts with positive messages adorn all our windows – spreading the message of kindness with our community!
