Windsor Secondary students offer words and songs as part of a virtual Orange Shirt Day assembly on September 30.
By NVSD Communications
Wearing orange shirts, students and staff around our district heard stories, shared words and reflected in the spirit of hope and reconciliation on September 30.
Orange Shirt Day is a national event that helps us all build a new future in which every child matters.
Orange Shirt Day: Every Child Matters
stems from the story of Phyllis Webstad, whose beloved orange
shirt was taken away on her first day of school at St. Joseph Mission Residential School near Williams Lake in the 1970s.
September 30 has
become an important occasion to keep the discussion on all aspects of
residential schools happening annually.
