Indigenous Education Youth Writing Contest winning entries

The Last Generation to Carry the Land and Deer Lesson were winning submissions in the Indigenous Education Youth Writing Contest, co-sponsored by North Vancouver School District and West Vancouver Schools this past spring.

The contest asked high school students to create a written piece, either fiction or non-fiction, that connects to the First Peoples Principles of Learning. Writers could choose a theme of land, family or identity.

Mountainside Secondary Grade 12 student Emma Jeffrey won first place for her story, The Last Generation to Carry the Land.

Carson Graham Grade 8 student Rylen Bordeau received third place for his story, Deer Lesson.
