The Sustainable Energy Association, in partnership with BC municipalities, puts on the Cool It! Climate Leadership Training each year. The program develops and empowers young sustainability champions in grades 4 -7 in schools throughout the province through workshops and contests.

As part of an environmental stewardship inquiry project related to marine animals, the students discovered how many of their day-to-day actions can affect, directly and indirectly, the planet's health.  The students decided to sign up for the Cool It! Climate Challenge by spending a full month monitoring their daily activities and those of their families, as a way to become more aware and to integrate 'greener' ways of doing simple things.  The program scientists calculated that if the students continue their amazing efforts throughout the year, it is estimated the class will save 21.772 tonnes of greenhouse gases from being released into the atmosphere!

This grade 3/4 class has been invited to attend a ceremony on Monday, June 17, 2019, at 6pm at the City of North Vancouver City Hall to celebrate their dedication and stewardship. The Mayor of the City of North Vancouver will give each student an achievement award. There will also be a special reception in the City Hall Atrium following the council meeting for students, parents and teachers to celebrate this accomplishment.  Congratulations to the class on the great achievement and positive contribution to our environment!
