Windsor School Start-Up Update

September 09, 2014

A Message to Windsor Parents and Guardians:

I am writing to maintain communication between parents and Windsor Secondary in anticipation of the start of the 2014-2015 school year. As you are aware, the ongoing labour dispute involving the BC Teachers’ Federation (BCTF) and the BC Public Schools Employers’ Association (BCPSEA) has created uncertainty as to when the school year will begin.

While the date and the details of the first school day have yet to be determined, it is reasonable to anticipate a streamlined agenda for that day. We originally planned to include one parent of each Grade 8 student in our first day orientation as well as providing Adventure Smart presentations for Grades 9 to 12. Given the scheduling challenges the uncertainty of the start day creates, we have removed these two items from our opening day plan and will look for an opportunity to reschedule them both at a later date once the school year is up and running.

Evening events listed in the school calendar mailed home in August, such as the Grade 8 parent night or the music barbeque are cancelled until school is back in session. This same school calendar also lists September 19th as “Curriculum Implementation Day, No Classes” and this date has been moved to January 9, 2015.  Also listed in the school calendar on September 22nd, is the “Grade 8 Outdoor School Leadership Event” which regrettably has been cancelled as well.

Over the course of the summer break we experienced several changes to our teaching staff. Mme. Lyse Guay and Ms. Marlene Loader elected to retire and M. Marc Gurumeta resigned his position and is pursuing new opportunities abroad. We wish each of them the very best moving forward and thank them for their distinguished service at Windsor! Ms. Corinne Kinnon will be taking on a new position as Family of Schools Teacher Leader and has been assigned to the Carson Family of Schools. Naturally, these departures create opportunities for new teachers to join our teaching staff. Please welcome to Windsor:

Mme. Alexa Bennett-Fox - French Immersion
Ms. Erin Ferguson - English / Drama
Mme. Anne Ouellet - French Immersion
Mr. Michael Sheppard - Social Studies / English
Ms. Krista Wood - Science / Physical Education

I look forward to the start of the new school year and assure you that I will communicate with you again to provide a more detailed plan for the first day of school once that date and the details are established. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation through what is an unusually challenging time.

Sincerely,

Adam Baumann
Principal
