2016/2017 WORK EXPERIENCE STUDENT PLACEMENTS
From April 12 – April 20 Tania Ajikan took part in the RCMP Youth Academy at Stillwood Camp. During her week long Camp, she was up at 4am daily to partake in grueling physical testing, run RCMP drills and learn about what it takes to make it as an RCMP member. She rock climbed and hiked mountains carrying half her body weight, and learned about all of the different weapons used by the force. Tania is not stopping after this experience! She also participated in Fire Fighter Career day, and hopes to attend Camp Ignite this summer!
Arman Sinaeian joined Work Experience with a clear goal in mind; he wants to become a dentist. He spent the first portion of his Work Experience placement shadowing Dr. Grakoui at her dental practice on Lonsdale. During his placement, Arman witnessed several dental procedures including a wisdom tooth extraction. Dr. Grakoui was very impressed by Arman's interest and drive at such a young age, and how well he handled some of the procedures even she was a little put off by when she started dental school! Arman continued on to work at two other dental practices throughout the year and excelled at each one.
Olivia Couldwell-Warrington started volunteering with the Wildlife Rangers at Grouse Mountain in the summer before her Grade 10 year. She was so engaged over the summer that she decided to continue her placement, despite already having her required hours. Olivia continues to volunteer at Grouse, even though she has now accumulated double the required hours, and has no intention of stopping any time soon. She was also hired onto the team over the Christmas holidays. Olivia gets to work with all sorts of animals, and is excited for the bears to come out of hibernation so she can start working with them again soon!
