Some Grad Events Are Not Sanctioned

March 27, 2014

Press Release from the North Vancouver RCMP:  Historically in North Vancouver, the high school classes that graduate in June hold unsanctioned Pre-Graduation events. They have been held in North Vancouver and various locations throughout the Vancouver area.

These events often represent adolescent behaviour primarily under the influence of alcohol, states Cpl. Richard De Jong, spokesperson for the North Vancouver RCMP.  Alcohol and drugs, which affect thought, mood and judgment, when combined in a party environment, bring with them potential harmful consequences.

An unsanctioned pre-grad dance event is scheduled for Thursday, April 03, 2014 in Vancouver and is being attended by several North Shore high school graduating classes.

Responding to negative experiences that occurred in previous years, the police, North Vancouver School District, and concerned parents have implemented proactive measures to encourage safe and responsible behaviour from students throughout the year.

This is truly the case of a community that cares for our youth and works together to minimize any potential harm or criminal behaviour, stated Cpl. Richard De Jong.  It is important for students and parents to know that these events are not sanctioned by the North Vancouver School District.
