2014 Scholastic Coach of the Year JAY PREPCHUK
From the time Jay Prepchuk hung up his cleats and transitioned from player to coach, his focus has been on helping players succeed at the game but In 2013, he had one of the toughest tasks of his career.
In late 2012, because of the growing population at Handsworth Secondary, Jay learned that his Royals program would be forced to move up to compete at the Sr. AAA level. This challenge was compounded by the fact the Royals had barely enough players to meet the minimum requirement.
One story that has become folklore among the Royals is what Coach Jay did on the eve of their first game. He wrote the initials “T.T.” on his players’ hands to signify team toughness thereby challenging them to rise above their obstacles and excel. And excel is what the Royals did in 2013 posting a 4-2 regular season record.
Jay also took out of his busy schedule in 2013 to be part of Football BC’s provincial programs assisting with various Combines, camps, as well as serving as the QB coach for the provincial under-18 tackle team during their tournament in San Antonio.
Jay has succeeded in touching the lives of many young football athletes and through his dedication has left all the players he’s influenced as being better young men both on and off the field.
