24 Hour Fast

April 05, 2013

On Friday March 1st, 65 students and two teachers participated in Carson's annual 24 Hour Fast. Students went door to door asking for donations to the Free the Children "Build a Village Campaign" in Haiti. On average students collected $100 each. Our top fundraisers came in at over $250 dollars each! Together the kids raised nearly $7000 towards a medical clinic and sustainable income projects in a village in Haiti. In previous years we have collected for a school and clean water. Students also earned 6 Hours towards their Community & Service requirement.

Students gave up food for 24 Hours to experience a tiny bit of what many children around the world go through every day. After school on Friday they played some fun drama games with Mr. Walker, they watched a documentary about Haiti's orphan and listened to two presentations from guest speakers. The first speaker was a former Carson student who worked last summer in Senegal. The second set of speakers came from the Metro Vancouver Dream Center. This is the group that runs the Meal Service that many students have already participated in. They spoke about their local and international work in Africa. Finally ,Mr. Bond helped the kids had an amazing talent show that left us all impressed! We all slept over in the library, then shared a quick breakfast before heading home. Thanks to parents who donated breakfast items and thanks to the other teachers who helped chaperone: Mr. Forsyth, Mr. Moore, & Ms. Ballou.
