Student Placement Process for 2018-2019 School Year

May 10, 2018

In May and June of each year we begin the planning process of developing class organization for the upcoming school year.  During this time, we begin placing students into possible class groupings. However, as enrolment can change over the coming months, student placements are not finalized until September of the new school year.

Our class placement process ensures that thoughtful consideration of each child’s social, emotional and academic needs are aligned with the need to create a balanced and effective learning environment.  Students are assigned to classes by a team made up of the School Based Resource Team, the child’s current teacher(s), non-enrolling teacher(s), support staff and school administrators. This professional team considers each placement very carefully as they create classes that include a wide range of students who learn in a variety of ways.  We strive to build classes to best support all students’ learning in an inclusive educational environment.

If there is information that the current classroom teacher and/or the principal does not have and should be aware of when placing your child in classes for next year, please write a letter or email to Mr. Doug Beveridge, Principal (dbeveridge@sd44.ca) by June 7, 2018. Letters received after this date will not be considered.

When communicating your requests, examples that may be considered include special social emotional circumstances and reasonable peer requests. Specific teacher requests will not be considered. The information you provide in your letter will be given to our professional team to be included in the class placement process.

Thank you for your time and understanding as we embark upon the thoughtful process of building classes for the 2018-2019 school year.
