    Parents as Career Coaches Workshop is a two session workshop designed to help parents of secondary school students become more effective career development allies for their children. Parents/guardians are introduced to the concepts of coaching and given practical tools and research skills to help them as they coach their children. This workshop is intended for parents of students currently in Grades 10, 11, and 12. Attendees must commit to attending both evening sessions. Please note this workshop is for parents/guardians only. Space is limited.     Popping the Bubble Wrap for Children’s Health Early Learning Dialogue 2017 with Dr. Mariana Brussoni An Event for North Vancouver School District Staff, Early Learning Foundations (ELF) Preschool and Childcare Providers, and North Shore Early Learning Community Partners Most of us have childhood memories of long hours spent outdoors and away from watchful eyes of adults. The childhood of today looks very different, with more time spent indoors, supervised, in structured activities, and in front of screens. This interactive workshop will explore the effects of changing childhoods and limited outdoor risky play time on children’s health and development, as well as current strategies and efforts to restore balance in BC and elsewhere. Dr. Mariana Brussoni is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and the School of Population and Public Health at the University of British Columbia. She is also an investigator with the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute and the BC Injury Research & Prevention Unit. Trained as a developmental psychologist, she investigates child injury prevention, parenting and children’s risky play.

    The North Vancouver School District welcomes 3-5 year olds with their parents, guardians, childcare providers, or early childhood educators to Ready, Set, Learn - a free early learning event funded by the BC Ministry of Education. The Ready, Set, Learn initiative is aimed at helping preschoolers get ready for school. It recognizes that families need to establish positive connections with schools and early learning community partners who provide resources and information. RSVP to 604-903-3290
