INVITE - French Immersion Program Review meeting, Sept 13

September 07, 2016

In January 2016 the North Vancouver School District began a review of the French Immersion Program.  The key mandate for this review is to enhance the school district’s French Immersion program K-12 by reviewing accessibility and programming options.  Currently, the District French Immersion Review Committee is focused on exploring options for increasing flexibility and choice in French Immersion programming at the secondary level.

During the spring of 2016, the District French Immersion Review Committee conducted a series of surveys with students, parents and staff.  Further consultation took place in person with students and staff at all French Immersion secondary sites.  The committee reviewed the feedback gathered through this process and developed a proposal for a redesigned French Immersion secondary program (8-12), which aligns with the new BC Curriculum and honours both the goal of increased flexibility in programming and the responses we heard from key stakeholder groups.

The French Immersion Review Committee is committed to engaging in meaningful consultation with staff, students, and parents to further inform our processes and recommendations.

We invite French Immersion students currently in Grades 6-11 and their parents, as well as North Vancouver School District staff, to attend the Board of Education Standing Committee Public Meeting on Tuesday, September 13th at 7 p.m. at the Education Services Centre (2121 Lonsdale Ave)

At this meeting we will present an overview of our consultation process and the recommendations we will present to the Board of Education on October 18, 2016.
