June 21, 2016

CAtkinson2016.jpgAfter an extensive search, the Executive Committee is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Chris Atkinson as Assistant Superintendent of Schools for the North Vancouver School District, effective August 1, 2016.  Mr. Atkinson’s educational career has taken him from the Langley School District to the Vancouver School Board.  He holds a Masters in Educational Administration, a Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree.

During his 26-year career in public education, Chris Atkinson has worked in a number of roles in both large and small school districts.  He brings to North Vancouver School District his diverse and extensive knowledge and experience as a former school counsellor, coordinator for a severe behavior program, senior science teacher, department head, vice principal and principal.  He is currently serving as the District Principal for the Vancouver School District, BC’s second largest school district with a student population of 56,000, 110 school sites, and 126 languages where some of his duties have included district enrolment projections, school renewal and pedagogical change, and mentorship of Principals/Vice Principals.

“On behalf of the Board of Education, I would like to welcome Mr. Chris Atkinson.  The Board's goal is to foster an education system that promotes an inspiring environment that offers innovative opportunities and thinking to support success for all students.  With his education and professional experiences, Chris Atkinson is an excellent candidate for the important leadership role of Assistant Superintendent, and I look forward to seeing how he will enhance the growth opportunities for our students and our staff,” said Christie Sacre, Chair of the North Vancouver Board of Education.

As incoming Superintendent of Schools and on behalf of the Executive Committee and the Board of Education, I am very pleased that Chris Atkinson has accepted the position of Assistant Superintendent in the North Vancouver School District.  One of the most powerful characteristics of a great teaching and learning community is an openness to learn from others and to mentor and grow future leaders.   Mr. Atkinson’s leadership experience in empowering others to grow and learn, as well as his openness and experience in creating pedagogical dialogue, will serve the North Vancouver School District well as we strive to provide the best educational system for our students.

Please join me in extending our most sincere congratulations to Chris Atkinson.  We wish him continued success in his new appointment as Assistant Superintendent of Schools.

Sincerely,

Mark Pearmain
