MPearmain.jpgAfter an extensive nation-wide search, the Board of Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Pearmain as Superintendent of Schools for the North Vancouver School District, effective July 1, 2016.  Mark is replacing John Lewis who, after 10 years as Superintendent of the North Vancouver School District, is retiring at the end of this school year.  Mark has more than 20 years experience in leadership roles within the public school system, and has been a great asset to the North Vancouver School District since he joined the School District in 2014 as Assistant Superintendent.

“For the past two years, Mark has consistently demonstrated strong leadership skills and a passion for innovative educational practices.  We are incredibly pleased to welcome him as Superintendent, as we are confident that his skills and experience will strongly support our vision of providing world-class instruction and program diversity.  We are confident he will support goals that inspire success for every student and will encourage our community to learn, share and grow together,” said Christie Sacré, Chair, North Vancouver Board of Education.

As Assistant Superintendent in the North Vancouver School District, Mark’s role has included supervisory responsibilities for the Carson, Handsworth and Sutherland families of schools, and the North Vancouver Distributed Learning School.  In addition, Mark has provided supervision and mentorship for Directors of Instruction, Principals and Vice Principals and supports to schools in the implementation of their school growth plans.  His responsibilities have also included the continued development and implementation of the International Baccalaureate Program, Technology initiatives, and the new Summer Learning Program.

Prior to joining the team in North Vancouver, Mark served as Director of Instruction - Field Services, as part of the District Management Team with the Vancouver School District.  Mark’s previous roles included District Principal of Field Services, Principal of University Hill Secondary, and Vice Principal of Windermere and Point Grey Secondary Schools.  Mark holds a Masters of Education in Educational Administration and Leadership from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) from the University of Victoria.

Born and raised on the North Shore, Mark and his wife reside in North Vancouver with their two children, a daughter who is in grade 8 at Argyle Secondary School, and a son in grade four at Boundary Elementary School.  Mark is thrilled with the opportunity to continue to provide dedicated service and leadership to the school district where his children attend public school.

The North Vancouver Board of Education is delighted that Mark Pearmain has accepted the position of Superintendent for the North Vancouver School District.  We look forward to working and learning together for the continued success of the students and families we serve in our community.  Please join me in extending our most sincere congratulations to Mark Pearmain.  We wish him continued success in his new appointment as Superintendent of Schools.
