Basketball Academy
Late Registration Information

Late registration for this academy is open from Monday, April 9th to Wednesday, April 25th at 8:59 PM. To apply, please email with:

  1. The name of the Academy your student is interested in applying for in the subject line
  2. Student Name (legal first and last)
  3. Student Grade for 2017-18
  4. Student School for 2017-18
  5. Student Pupil Number (the number provided to you by the school)

There are a few spaces in some academies and in others your student will be placed on a waiting list. Once you have applied, we will contact you as soon as a space becomes available.

Located at ​Argyle Secondary, Handsworth Secondary​, Mountainside Secondary and Seycove Secondary​, Grades 8-12​

The Basketball Academy is scheduled as follows for the 2018-19 school year:
Seycove Competitive Stream: at Seycove Secondary on Day 1 Block 4
Seycove Stream: at Parkgate Community Centre on Day 1 Block 4
Argyle Competitive Stream: at Argyle Secondary on Day 2 Block 8
Handsworth Stream: at Mountainside Secondary on Day 2 Block 8

In partnership with Basketball BC, the North Vancouver Recreation Commission, and Vern Porter Consulting.

The Basketball Academy consists of two cohorts:

Cohort 1 - A select competitive stream at Seycove Secondary open to all genders.

Cohort 2 - An academy stream that provides for the participation of all genders, regardless of their basketball experience. West Stream at Mountainside Secondary (run out of Handsworth Secondary), East Stream at Parkgate Community Centre (run out of Seycove Secondary) and Central Stream at Argyle (run out of Argyle).

Students are placed in the cohort where Basketball Canada determines they will best perform.

The program consists of a basketball curriculum as set out by Basketball BC and is in compliance with the BC Ministry of Education Prescribed Learning Outcomes for Physical Education. Students earn their grade-equivalent P.E. credit upon successful completion of the program.

Note: Registration in the Basketball Academy will not affect a player’s ability to play on their home school’s basketball team.

How to apply

Applications to the Basketball Academy begin January 29, 2018 and close March 9, 2018.

All students applying to Academies in North Vancouver must apply online to All students must reapply to the Basketball Academy every year.

Out of District applicants please contact to receive the application link.

International Students please email for registration information.

To be completed upon acceptance:

  • Student Medical Form
  • Personal Information Consent Form

All applicants must attend an evaluation camp for placement in the appropriate cohort.  Date and time to be announced.


Cohort 1 - Players to be selected based on try-outs

Cohort 2 - Three priority groups:

Priority 1 - Returning students 

Priority 2 - Waitlisted players from previous year 

Priority 3 - Lottery for remaining North Vancouver School District students, if applicable 

Total spots available will be dependent on the number of applications received and the ability of schools to organize suitable timetables to meet student needs.

If necessary, student selection for the Basketball Academy will be determined by a lottery in a manner that is consistent with Board Policy 605: Admission of Students to Schools.  Note: Those players not selected via the lottery will be placed on a waitlist.


Cohort 1 - $1500 program fee per school year

Cohort 2 - $1300 program fee per school year

The first payment confirms placement in the academy and is non-refundable. It is due on or before June 1, 2018. If a family chooses to pay in installments, this must be set up for automatic withdrawal prior to June 1, 2018 with the first payment due September 1, 2018 and then on the first of each month through May 2019. Information for payment will be included in the acceptance package. An additional course fee of approximately $925 may apply to out-of-district students. Non-payment or late payment of fees may incur a penalty and/or result in loss of placement in the academy.
