On Thursday, February 3, Mark Pearmain, NVSD Superintendent, took some time out of his busy schedule and visited our school. He met with several staff members and classes, including:

  • Mme Bernier's Grade 4 FI students who sang a song while transitioning from their desks to the carpet for community circle;
  • Mme Cohen's Grade 1 FI students who used iPads and manipulatives for deeper learning in math;
  • Mrs. Peristeris' Grade 5 Eng students who infused a singing and dancing brain break into their daily work routine; and
  • Lora Hargreaves, BPAC Chair, to gain a better understanding of our school culture from a parent's perspective and the positive relationship between the school and our parent community.

We were very proud to showcase our school and allow Mark to see the great things that happen on a daily basis. Mark was quite impressed with the learning he saw, and he stated that "there was a calm" as we walked through the hallways and into classrooms.

This is what some of the kids and staff had to say about Mark's visit:

"It was kinda fun." (Gr 1 student)

"He's very nice. I liked working with him." (Gr 1 student)

"He dabbed, big plus!" (Gr 5 student)

"He was encouraging us to sing and dance and was complimenting us for taking a risk." (Gr 5 student)

"He was great with the kids and they were excited to see him!" (Teacher)

"I liked the fact that someone from the Board Office, especially Mark, took the time and came into the classroom and connected with me and the kids." (Teacher)

We are thankful for Mark and his visit as it meant a lot to us. We welcome him back to meet other staff and students whenever he has some time.
