First Nations students meet Honourable Jody Wilson-Raybould
On November 25, 2016, seven students from the North Vancouver School District were selected to represent all Aboriginal Students in North Vancouver at the annual convention of the First Nations Education Steering Committee (FNESC).  The students represented the North Vancouver School District Aboriginal Student Leadership Council that encompasses individuals from the two local First Nations (Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh), urban First Nations and Metis.  Students who are part of this group excel in academics, arts, athletics and social justice. They are able to be leaders in these areas, while still understanding how important it is to bring to the forefront First Peoples ways of knowing and how it needs to be part of the fabric of their schools.  Without a doubt, these students are an important part of the changing landscape of education in BC. They are role models to all of us.

On November 25th, I had  the privilege to sit down and have breakfast with the Attorney General of Canada, the Honourable Jody Wilson-Raybould. It was a great experience to do so with a good group of people from other schools in North Vancouver. I learned that Ms. Wilson-Raybould is from the same band as my dad's side of the family in Cape Mudge by Campbell River, B.C. on Vancouver Island. All 8 students from North Vancouver School District were introduced individually in-front of 800+ people at the FNESC Conference. It was an honor for me to represent the Windsor Secondary Aboriginal community.
